What is Homebrew Creation?

This website is my storage space for ideas, concepts, analysis, commentary, tools, apps, and whatever else I want to create about Dungeons & Dragons (and other tabletop RPGs and media). In between work, running a D&D 5e campaign, and all kinds of other hobbies, I want to create longer lasting content about D&D. This storage space is where I will place and organize all of this, with the intent to help (aspiring) DMs.

Why did you create Homebrew Creation?

Other DMs (Matt Mercer, Matt Colville, Zee Bashew, to name a few) have been incredible resources for me that helped me immensely to become a better DM. All of these modern day sources of information will certainly speed up the process of learning the D&D ropes, and I truly believe in this type of democratization. We are not beholden to a singular company to provide us with the required knowledge, we can create and teach each other. With fairly little effort, a game of D&D can be homebrewed to such an extent that it feels like a different game.

Also, I think Wizards of the Coast is not doing a good job of providing the needed content to actually help DMs. Therefore, I do my best to provide insights or tools to fill the giant gaps that are left by Wizards of the Coast.

What is the ultimate end goal of Homebrew Creation?

I want to inspire more people to try DMing, and to give more people the means of creating whatever they want. Some tips to become a better DM. A template that will speed things up. A tool that will help you create quests, encounters, or monsters more easily. Anything to democratize the process of DMing and creating worlds.

I hope to do this with by writing, by creating software, and by utilizing generative AI (GPT and Midjourney). Ultimately, I want people to be able to easily create what they dream of and have their friends run around in their creation. DMs who claim it’s easy kind of bug me, because it’s not true if you want to do it as best you can, and that’s what I aim to assist with.
